Developing a studio specialized in the craft of designing with concrete
Service & Business Design, Market Research & Strategy, Project Management
Design Opportunity:
Creating a design studio exclusively centered around concrete allows for the exploration of sleek modern designs and rugged industrial aesthetics. Specializing in this material provides a focused niche.
Background
The origins of this project proceed from an exploration into the fascinating intersection of technology, craftsmanship, and material innovation.
Initially centered around the experimentation of crafting small objects using 3D printing technology, the journey took an exciting turn as the desire to enhance the size, finish, value, and perceived quality of these creations grew. Using the same 3D tools to enable the creation of intricate molds that paved the way for the transformation of concrete into bespoke, larger-scale objects.
Challenge
This venture evolved into a significant challenge as it sought to carve a niche in the market by specializing in intricate concrete designs and elaborating a successful marketing strategy and deep grasp of our sales channels and users.
Focused on complex designs, the team navigated the difficulties of crafting durable molds capable of withstanding numerous uses while ensuring the final product maintained high quality and remained economically viable. This required a delicate balance between pushing the boundaries of concrete design and engineering molds.
My Role
I dived into the intricacies of business concept and design, navigating through the phases of brand management and product development, leading the market research, and niche discovery. The studio conception and growth was a validation to my ability to synthesize brand identity, design innovation, and market strategy, harmonizing them into a cohesive narrative that drove the success of our venture.
I orchestrated the project management, setting short and long-term objectives to maintain focus and efficiency.

Concept and Business Ideation
Inspired by the raw, elemental beauty of concrete and its unexplored potential in the design space, the concept gained momentum. The journey began with an exploration of the market, identifying a niche with high demand and few offers, and envisioning a unique value proposition for the brand, discovering an audience seeking high-end, bespoke creations.
Project Management
Since the conception of the project I Implemented Agile methodologies for a flexible and adaptive approach. Complemented with Kanban boards to arrange and have a clearly division of tasks, setting short and long-term objectives, maintaining focus and direction from the ideation phase to the future growth and planning. Working with an Iteratively refined process based on continuous feedback and learning.
Market Research and Strategy
Conducted extensive research, digging into market demands, design trends, and architectural styles. The most invaluable insights were gleaned from conversations with industry peers from retail establishments, interior designers, architects, construction companies. The culmination of this research underscored a significant gap in the market. This insight guided our strategic decision to concentrate on creating exceptional planters,
Our market strategy shifted towards indirect sales through third-party partnerships, particularly targeting large architectural, and design projects. While this required the challenge of lowering costs, the potential for selling larger quantities to each client justified the strategic shift.
We refined our entire business strategy through a service blueprint sprint that I led. This process served as our guiding framework for the business, laying out the customer journey, touchpoints, operational processes and the correlation between them all. This strategic approach ensures that our business remained adaptable, customer-centric, and aligned with our long-term goals.
Product Management & Development
Conducted extensive research on the material, design, and production challenges. Developed prototypes, testing and refining to ensure a high quality product. We began by providing services to friends and colleagues for small projects, learning and refining our product. While simultaneously, we invested in scaling our infrastructure for future larger endeavors.
